Edsel came out on Sunday, good communication and texted he'd be here. When he got here, he confirmed my suspicions that it was a capacitor which is a very simple repair/installation (for lack of a better analogy, it is loosely equivalent to replacing a fuse in a car...not too hard)...and he said it would be about $200, but he may be able to discount it for me somewhat. Having suspected it was the capacitor, I had already ordered one the previous night and it was to be delivered to my house via Amazon...it cost $17. So I told him I'd wait for it to arrive and install it myself instead of paying a $180 markup on a $17 part. He said OK, but since he didn't install it and did not have a "sample" or "working' capacator...he could not check the rest of the system...so that was the end of the service call...fair enough I guess, but it would have been nice to have the rest of the system checked. So he then said the service call was $209...so I tried to remember from my original phone call with the dispatcher...and the cost should be $179...so Edsel accepted that and I paid him in cash....but kinda felt like it had been a price negotiation...which I wasn't expecting.
The following day I get an e-mail from Green Leaf with invoice for $179...but it doesn't say paid...so I call them, and the lady who answered at first asked how I'd like to pay...I said I did...and she checked and verified it...and agreed and sent me a e-mail with a "paid" invoice. She also confirmed that the capacitor part is normally priced at between $150-$180...which is still about a 10x markup (remember, you've already paid for a labor/service call), but she did say that it is covered by 1 year parts and service warranty.
Final Analysis: EXCELLENT RESPONSE TIME and Edsel did seem very qualified at his job.
COST/PRICING: Seemed to be always a negotiation that I had to be aware of...and I get that they need to make money...but up to you whether you think the parts 10x markup is excessive or not...for me, I think it was since a service call had already been paid for.
Honest, trustworthy and get the job done right!
Highly recommend 😊

Understanding Gas Line Repair
What You Need to Know
If you’re a homeowner, you know that there are many components of your home that require regular upkeep and maintenance. One of the most important components is the gas line system. A properly functioning gas line system is essential for your home’s safety and comfort. Therefore it’s critical for homeowners everywhere to stay informed about their own personal gas line systems – what they do, why they’re important, where they’re located within our homes – as well as knowing how best to have them fixed properly when needed by qualified professionals such as those here at Green Leaf HVAC and Plumbing here in Round Rock & North Austin area! With this knowledge under our belts, we can rest assured knowing that we’ll have clean burning energy available right at our fingertips when we need it most!
But what exactly does it entail? We’ve gotten a lot of questions about gas lines, so we have accumulated a few and kept them here for your perusal.
A gas line system is a network of pipes installed in your home to provide natural gas from an outside source. Natural gas is used to power appliances such as stoves, dryers, and hot water heaters, as well as provide heat to your home. Gas lines are typically made of copper or galvanized steel, though some older homes may have cast iron or plastic pipes instead.
Gas lines are extremely important because they bring natural gas into your home, allowing you to use to power appliances and provide heat. Since natural gas is highly flammable, it’s essential that any issues with the gas line system be addressed immediately, as they could potentially result in a fire or explosion if left unchecked. For this reason, it’s important to keep an eye out for any signs of trouble with the gas line system in your home—more on that later!
Most often, you will find the main shutoff valve for the gas line system located outside near where the pipe enters your home. Inside, you can find smaller shutoff valves near each appliance connected to the main line—these are used when servicing those particular appliances individually without having to shut off all the other appliances connected to the main line at once. Additionally, if you suspect a leak in one area of your home but not necessarily know where it is coming from specifically (or if there are multiple leaks), then these small shutoff valves can help identify where exactly those leaks are so they can be addressed quickly and efficiently by a professional technician.
If you suspect a problem with your gas line system—such as a leak or damaged pipe—then it should always be addressed by a qualified professional who knows how to properly repair the issue without putting anyone at risk. While there are some household tasks that can reasonably be accomplished without formal training, handling gas lines, gas line repair or electricity is extremely dangerous. On average, gas line repairs take anywhere from 1-2 hours depending on how extensive they need to be—for instance replacing a badly corroded pipe would take longer than simply patching up a small hole. Exact time and price measurements would be taken based on your specific situation, and estimates would be given before any work is done. So if you’re looking for an experienced professional trained and experienced in both natural gas lines and plumbing systems, look no further than our team. They can assess and fix any issues quickly and safely without compromising your family’s safety or comfort, and provide you with long-lasting peace of mind.
